Red Rose karate club was founded in 1964 and became affiliated to the Karate Union of Great Britain in 1966. The Club was situated at the Saint Georges Work building. It was opened in 2001 by Major Sybil Rosatron and Professor William Rankin. In October 2006 the club was subjected to a compulsory purchase and has now moved to the gym at Central High School.

We are currently working towards purchasing land to build a new Sports and Community centre on. We will be keeping this site updated with the news as we progress with this project.

Club Mission
Our goal is to promote the self defense, competitive and discipline aspects of Shotokan Karate, making this style of martial arts, it’s teaching and achievements accessible and enjoyable to all ages eight years and above in the Lancaster and Bay area through instruction and access to competition.

What is Karate?
Karate is a system of self defense and physical culture originally developed and refined in Okinawa and Japan. The word is formed from the Japanese words Kara (empty) and Te (hand), symbolising that its practitioners - Karateka - are unarmed, but use their hands and feet for blocking and striking. Training is conducted within an environment based on certain Japanese cultural practices.

11/08/08 - DAN GRADE SUCCESS
The week commencing 4th to 8th August 2008 saw the Annual Karate Summer School held at the Lancaster University.  Several students and instructors from the Red Rose Shotokan Karate Club took advantage of the course being so close to home and trained for the full week.   Now in its 28th year, over 200 students from all over the globe travelled to Lancaster for the expert instruction from several of the senior instructors of the Karate Union of Great Britain, headed by the Chief Instructor, Sensei Andy Sherry 8th Dan.  Following a gruelling weeks training, Aarron Russell from the Red Rose Club, was successful in passing his 1st Dan Black Belt at his first attempt.
